Star Catchers
Star Catchers, an immersive installation, and performance that invites audiences into a poetic, interactive universe where movement and technology converge. Rooted in a blend of dance, choreography, interactive art, and performance ritual, the work transforms participants from passive viewers into active collaborators within the space.
As a dancer and partner choreographer for the performance,I worked closely with the creative team and project leaders Adelle Lin and Matt Pinner to develop movement that responds to the installation’s digital framework. Central to the piece is the idea of “catching stars,” symbolic movements that bridge physical expression with virtual elements projected around the stage encouraging playful engagement and embodied reflection. The choreography was designed to be intuitive yet evocative, allowing performers and participants alike to navigate the imagined cosmos with curiosity and wonder.
The performance integrates interactive lighting, generative soundscapes, and responsive projection, where movement triggers and shapes the evolving visual and auditory environment. This synergy of dance and responsive technology supports a layered narrative: one that explores interconnectedness, aspiration, and the shared human impulse to reach for something beyond ourselves. Through collaborative movement sequences and interactive prompts, Star Catcher encourages audiences to consider their relationship to each other and to the larger imagined cosmos inspired by themes of stewardship and wonder.
My role involved crafting choreographic frameworks that both support and enhance the installation’s immersive logic, working in tandem with designers and technologists to ensure that movement contributes meaningfully to the multi-sensory experience.Star Catcher not only celebrates dance as expressive form but also positions it as a dynamic medium for participatory storytelling in a technologically rich space.
